Costa Rica, Tarrazu, El Canet

Flavour:

Low acidity, creamy body, cherry finish with hints of orange peel throughout.

The Farm:

El Canet is a community within the San José region, comprising just 46 producing families with smallholder lots. Founded in 1960, Tarrazú is now accepted as one of the best groups in Costa Rica, and is still run by the farmers. The cooperative offers farmers terms of credit, technical support, preferential pricing for supplies, and fertiliser created from the waste of multiple farms in the area. Alongside upcycling the discarded coffee pulp into natural fertiliser, the co-operative also provides coffee trees for maintaining crop health, agronomy support, and has an office run entirely on solar panels.

Cafe Femenino, Peru

The farm:

Cafe Feminino was founded in 2004 by a group of 464 female coffee producers in Peru aiming to create a more equitable situation in the coffee industry, it has now grown to 9 countries and supports thousands of women. Our coffee is grown by 800 women, all part of six associations within the CECANOR Co-Operative. They say they have "developed a never-before-existing market for exclusively women-produced coffee to serve as an important vehicle for social change and the empowerment of poor, marginalised women coffee farmers".

La Bastilla, Nicaragua

Flavour notes:

Pear sweetness, citrus notes and a caramel finish. Recently awarded a Cup of Excellence, making it in the top 2% of all specialty coffees entered.

The farm:

Grown in a mountainous natural reserve, all cherries are handpicked according to the microclimates of each individual farm. Through the Teach a Man to Fish charity children are funded to attend the on-site technical college to learn skills in tourism, animal husbandry and farming - a number of these students have now been able to go onto university.

Peruvian 'Swiss-water' process decaf

99.9% Free of Caffeine

Unlike regular decaf coffees, this bean is decaffeinated using no chemicals, just water. The caffeine is removed by osmosis after soaking the beans, the caffeine is then constantly filtered out using a carbon filter system, and then the beans are dried and roasted.

Flavour notes:

Praline, milk chocolate, maple syrup, rich and nutty.

The farm:

The Alto Mayo Agricultural Coffee Cooperative is based in Peru and was started by a group of 15 people and now has grown to 943 associated families across 43 production areas in the San Martin and Cajamarca regions, allowing the community to regain control of their income and production, and remove their reliance on intermediaries.

This security and support encourages innovation and expansion for these farms, and ensures a more sustainable and improved way of life for farmers.
